for every sale of w.i.p. tees, w.i.p bags, beetle badges & sacred heart badges (along with some of our woolly knitted goods) we make a donation to Salam Neighbor. when Meg & i were working on turning her illustrations into wares we both agreed we felt the need to give back to something, this little seed was planted within & nearly 9 months on Marlon & i came across a film called Living On One Dollar. we have a tendency to watch documentaries in the evenings which highlight folks doing positive things in the world & this ticked the box. the following morning i fell down their rabbit hole...
some days i feel quite hopeless & powerless when i look out into our beautiful world but then i recall what Rick Hanson says about how we can fill the Well drop by drop, or not even aim for a Well, perhaps start with a Bucket instead. then drop by drop fill it, the best way we can. whether its through meditation, intentional attention, caring, kindness, compassion, empathy or giving (and that includes our own selves), and by doing so, slowly but surely the Bucket/Well will start to fill up.
since our store opened exactly 2 weeks ago today, we have raised $260 for Salam Neighbor through sales of our wares, & that is because of you & each day another customer & another little drop gets added to the bucket... we cannot thank you enough!
so on days when i feel a little unsure of how to make a difference, i come back to my breath, sit quietly, knowing i am not alone in this feeling & a connection comes into being, a connection to other like minded souls, finding ways, big or small, little or large to fill the bucket the best way they know how & in turn i sense a feeling not of hopelessness or powerlessness but one of hope & one of power.
